The GSS, in collaboration with the Centre for Student Involvement and Careers (CSIC), brings you an afternoon of activities designed to enhance your career and jumpstart your post-graduate success with a new headshot and polished job search skills.
2-6pm – Advanced registration is mandatory (see sign-up box above), and available as first come, first served.*
You will receive up to three (unedited) headshots for your use on LinkedIn, conferences, job hunts, etc.
* Each Headshot takes approximately 5 minutes and the order of the headshots is determined upon registration.
During the headshot photography sessions, the CSIC is concurrently offering the following workshops in the main room of the GSS Grad Loft:
2:30-3:00 – Social Media and the Job Search
Recruiters are increasingly making use of social media (including, but not limited to, LinkedIn) both to look for fit, and to look for red flags. This session will be facilitated by the CSIC employer liaison specialist, Abraham Asrat, to provide an insider perspective on how to leverage social media during your job search.
3:30-4:00 – Job Search Strategies
In this session, CSIC career advisor Alicia Helde will offer strategies for executing an effective job search, with a focus on targeting the hidden job market using networking and informational interviews.
4:00-5:00 – Practical Networking Strategies
Networking only works if you put it into practice. In this session, CSIC graduate career educator Danielle Barkley will provide a range of hands-on networking strategies curated for graduate students.
5:15-6:00 – Interview Preparation: Tips and Tricks
How do you talk about your skills and experiences as a graduate student? This session, hosted by Danielle Barkley, will provide an opportunity to learn about common interview questions, strategies, and techniques.
*To avoid EventBrite fees, in-person payment at the GSS Office is available with exact cash or cheque only. No registration will be held via phone, email, or social media requests.
