The 2019 Graduate Student Society (GSS) is now CLOSED.
We have run the survey since 2014 to measure the quality of graduate student experience at UBC Vancouver.
The answers and opinions collected help us identify the most pressing challenges faced by graduate students, and then advocate for improvements in areas such as graduate student funding, housing, and career preparation.
In addition, the survey provides a useful snapshot of the changing concerns and experiences of graduate students over time. We will be releasing the results over the next few months.
Some key statistics from the survey are:
9% of respondents were satisfied by their cost of living
45% we dissatisfied at the amount of funding that they receive,
56% stated they were under stress due to the financial constraints
33% of graduate indicated concerns regarding mental health
31% of students felt that stress negatively affected their academic performance
19% of students feel they have not developed a sense of community on campus
We used these results to generate reports and data that helped us advocate for changes that matter to you.
Reports created from last year’s data that the GSS has used to lobby for changes that matter to graduate students including:
Developing and adopting a comprehensive, University wide framework on mental health, that embeds mental wellness in all campus activities.
Filling the funding gap for PhD students once the four-year fellowship period ends
