The GSS VP External Relations and VP University and Academic Affairs advocate for graduate student funding with the university as well as government and external organizations. Their goal is to understand the funding changes and the available financial support for graduate students.
The GSS raises awareness of the available scholarships and awards for graduate students. We believe that more could be done to ensure that student awards are not left unused at the end of the fiscal year. The advocacy team also believes in creating greater transparency for students in terms of the allocations of research funds and stipends, working to clarify and unravel the university’s policy for any change in the funds on an annual basis.

The GSS believes access to affordable housing for all graduate students should be a right. Around 1,300 graduate students live on-campus and we support an expansion of dedicated accommodation for graduate students, particularly for groups like students with dependents, who have specific needs. For the many students requiring access to rental accommodation we campaign to ensure all students are aware of their rights as tenants, and that Provincial legal frameworks are adequate.
If you are facing housing-related financial insecurity, apply for the Housing Security Aid (HSA) Fund and explore other resources here.
