The results from the Graduate Student Society’s Student Satisfaction Survey 2018-2019 were clear. Stipends and Scholarships was the issue that YOU wanted the GSS to make its advocacy priority in the upcoming year. The following are two infographics laying out the results of that survey.54% of graduate students in the research stream indicated that they are dissatisfied with the amount of funding they receive. In addition to this, 80% of all respondents indicated dissatisfaction over their cost of living.

  • We hear you.
  • And we are ready to change this.

We listened, and we agree that there is a critical need for action in this area. We have been lobbying within the university to highlight the financial pressures on graduate students. We believe that graduate student funding should reflect the financial realities of living in Vancouver and want to see increases in funding to ensure no graduate student is hampered in their studies by financial concerns. A sister issue of these financial concerns is that students who identified themselves as suffering from poor mental health pointed to finances as their major source of stress.

We have created a personalized finance survey which will be distributed November 1, 2019, geared to assessing the sources of funding you receive and your general expenditure. The following infographics are from the Graduate Student Society’s Student Satisfaction Survey 2018-2019 regarding this information, but we need more! This survey will help us present concrete numbers to the university, to ensure we are able to create realistic asks that can genuinely benefit graduate students. All information collected will remain anonymous and used for the purpose of studying collective replies. Responses cannot be tracked back to the respondent and no personally identifiable information will be captured.

Please help us advocate for affordable post-graduate education.
