The Graduate Student Society (GSS) is run by and for the 10,000 graduate students at UBC Vancouver. We promote and protect our members’ academic, social and cultural interests.
Thea Koerner House, the home of the Society, has been the centre of graduate student life on campus since it was opened in 1962.
Supports Vancouver Campus graduate students facing unexpected hardships by covering expenses such as medical fees, urgent travel, loss of funding, and critical belongings.
Provides support for graduate students facing housing insecurity by covering expenses such as rent assistance, moving costs, temporary accommodations, and replacement of damaged items.
Tailored to individual needs, the coaching process offers essential support for the personal and professional development of graduate students.
The AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan provides students with extended coverage for expenses not included in basic plans, such as prescription drugs, dental care, travel health, and vision care.
The AMS/GSS Health Plan Premium Assistance Fund provides a partial or up to a full reimbursement of the fee for the AMS/GSS Health & Dental Plan based on financial need.
Health and Wellness Resources provide a comprehensive list of internal and external services available to graduate students, promoting their overall well-being and addressing various health needs.

We offer flexible spaces for any event, including Thea’s Lounge and the GSS Loft for large gatherings, and Leon’s Lounge and the Study Room for smaller meetings.
The GSS Loft, atop the Nest, offers stunning views and serves as a versatile event space for graduate students.
Thea’s Lounge, with Georgia Strait views and a full-service bar, is filled with natural light and adaptable for events from intimate dinners to lively dance parties.
Cedar columns and large windows define Leon’s Lounge, a quiet venue ideal for small meetings. It can be used alone or combined with other Graduate Student Centre spaces for discussions.
Resources for students to get access to food for free or at a greatly subsidized rate.
Research, travel, and international scholarships offer UBC students resources for research travel and exchange programs in Canada and abroad.
Scholarships and awards available to UBC students are either administered by the University of British Columbia or external bodies.
Resources are available to students who have been impacted by sexualized violence.
