Effective, appealing communication is central to our mission of building a friendly and approachable community for all UBC graduate student communities.

Working with the Marketing and Communications Director, you’ll be improving the efficiency and productivity of GSS’ day-to-day operations, as well as improving the delivery of the Society’s goal of engaging the UBC graduate student community with our work.

The System Administration assistant at the Graduate Student Society (GSS) is a key IT professional responsible for planning, designing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the Society’s IT infrastructure, hardware, and software systems. This includes managing server and virtual machines, Microsoft applications, and other IT-related solutions. The role requires proactive problem-solving, project management, and technical expertise in system administration.

Working with the Marketing and Communications Director and the Visual Communications Assistant, you will be furthering the GSS Brand and helping us effectively engage the UBC graduate student community.

The Digital Communications Assistant is a dynamic and creative professional responsible for maintaining and enhancing the GSS’s social media presence. This role is pivotal in developing effective social media strategies, creating engaging content, and managing multiple platforms to foster community engagement and support the GSS UBC Vancouver’s goals.

Summary

As part of the Graduate Student Society, you will play an important part in providing a voice for the UBC graduate student community on important topics like finance, housing and harassment. 

The Society advocates for the rights of graduate students on campus and to the Provincial and Federal governments. This role will allow you to experience each of these distinct aspects of our work. 

The Policy Assistant works under the joint supervision of the Communications and Marketing Director, the VP External, and the VP Academic University and Academic Affairs, in researching and developing the GSS’s policy platform and in developing links between the GSS and policymakers on campus and outside.

The Acadia Food Hub, in partnership with the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) and Origin Church, provides food and baby supply assistance to the UBC community. Events Assistant – GSS Work Learn

Summary

The Events Assistant works under the joint supervision of the GSS VP Students and the Events Manager. The Events Assistant will assist in organizing the numerous graduate student events at UBC Vancouver throughout the year. Some of these events include an annual graduate student orientation for 1,000 new students, sports leagues, classes, hikes, ski trips, and other initiatives to improve graduate student life. The Events Assistant also assists the Events Manager in overseeing the entire venue operation of the Graduate Student Centre, encompassing over 9,000 square feet of rentable space, as well as the GSS Loft.
