Become an integral member of UBC GSS in communicating to the graduate student community! The GSS represents the 10,000 graduate students at UBC Vancouver. We get graduate students talking about important issues and inspire them to enjoy an active and balanced campus life.
Effective, appealing communication is central to our mission of building a friendly and approachable community for all UBC graduate student communities.
The Visual Communications Assistant works under the supervision of the Communications and Marketing Director in the design, development and management of the GSS’ visual presence in print, online and in other mediums, helping us effectively engage the UBC graduate student community.
For students interested in working in design or communications fields, working as part of a team delivering integrated marketing and communications campaigns is invaluable. This work provides hands on experience that relates directly to real world jobs in the communications or digital design fields.
By the end of the work term, the Visual Communications Assistant will have gained:

The Archives Assistant will work closely with the GSS President and Administrative Assistant to arrange archival and recordkeeping systems for all GSS Council and Committee related materials; these materials include documents regarding the activities of the student-led society that has served UBC Vancouver graduate students from its home at Thea Koerner House since 1962.
Entrepreneur Coordinator and Mentor

The role will involve coordination between the Graduate Student Society (GSS) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and the Entrepreneurship department at UBC.

The Events Assistant works under the joint supervision of the GSS VP Students and the General Manager, oversees the entire venue operation of the Graduate Student Centre, encompassing over 9,000 square feet of rentable space, as well as the GSS Loft. Based in the Graduate Student Centre, the incumbent will assist in organizing the numerous graduate student events at UBC Vancouver throughout the year. Some of these events include an annual graduate student orientation for 1,000 new students, sports leagues, classes, hikes, ski trips, and other initiatives to improve graduate student life.

The student will work closely with the Vice-President External and the GSS Executives to develop policy reports and recommendations to be presented to local, provincial, and federal government officials as well as external organizations as they relate to GSS advocacy campaigns. The ideal candidate would have a passion for data-driven advocacy to benefit graduate students, excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn about laws and policies governing research and innovation as well as graduate student life and funding.
